Neuschwanstein
This fairy tale castle may not have long history but its beauty that admires. The castle was commissioned by the king Ludwig and was homage to Richard Wagner. After the death of Ludwig the castle was opened for public. The castle is featured in many movies and served as inspiration for many 21st century constructs such as sleeping beauty castle at Disney land, Cinderella castle at magic kingdom and Tokyo Disney land.
The palace was originally as personal refuge for reclusive king, but later it was opened to paying public. The no. of visitors to this castle is about 1.3 million per annum. The castle shows architectural fashion known as romanticism and Ludwig’s enthusiasm for Richard Wagner’s opera.
The castle was seen as representative of romantic interpretation of middle ages and musical mythology of his friend Richard Wagner by the king Ludwig. The castle was designed by the stage designer Christian Jank and realized by the architect Eduard Riedel.
How to get there?
If you want to go there you should first go to the Munich by train or plane. Then you need to take the train to Fussen and then a bus in the direction to Schwangau until you reach the stop Hohenschwangau. From the bus station you can reach to the castle in 30 minute by walking.
Lowenburg Castle
It is also called as Lion’s citadel and unique amongst all the castles in Germany, in the sense that it was conceived as the idealistic medieval castle ruin. The design is based on fantasy of Landgrave Wilhelm 9th but experts regard it as important historical monument as it was first neogothic structure in country.
How to get there?
The best way to get there is by train since most intercity express trains and plenty of local trains stop at the Kassel-Wilhemshohe station. There is a main train station near the city centre. Much easier to see the downtown area is take a train to the hauptbahnhof and begin your exploring from there.
