This tower is located in Paris on the Champ de Mars. It is also nicknamed La dame de fer or the iron lady. The tower was built in 1889 and was named after its famous engineer Gustave Eiffel. Over the years, visitors all over the world have visited this monument which is now considered as a global icon of France and also has become one of the most recognizable monuments in the world. It is also the tallest building in Paris with a length of 324 metres. The tower is divided into 3 levels of which 1st and 2nd contains restraints and can be accessed by staircase while the 3rd floor is accessible only with the help of elevators.
Design of the tower
Material used in the structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs around 10,000 tonnes which is made from pig iron and other non metal components. Also during summer season, due to thermal heating of the steel, the tower can also shift up to 18 cm from the side which is facing the sun.
Maintenance
It includes applying 60 tonnes of paints every seven years to protect the iron building from rust. A darker shade of paint is used at the bottom and a lighter shade is used at the top of the building. The tower currently has a shade of brown on it which changes occasionally.
